Alexandra do Carmo's practice is focused on the studio as a conceptual field of study—the studio as a lens through which to investigate and expose the dynamics, conditions and limits of authorship.
Her main area of research is the concept of Artistic Autonomy for Public Use.

Lives and works in Portugal, holds a PhD in Artistic Studies Art and Mediations from Nova University of Lisbon (FCSH-IHA). Studied at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York, holds a Masters Degree from Pratt institute in Brooklyn and also studied at The Center of Art and Visual Comunication (Ar.Co) Lisbon having specialized in drawing.

Exhibited widely in Portugal, United States, Germany, Spain, Ireland. Most significative projects include: Earthkeping/Earthshaking (To have a finger caught to create tension/Red line campaign with the students climate strike at Rossio, Lisbon, 15 of March 2020, at Quadrum gallery, Lisbon 2020, The Green Studio at IC19, solo show in 2018 at Sismografo, Porto, and presented at Casa dos Direitos Sociais within the Seminary of urbanism and spatial justice, The Right to the City, Marvila, 2018 and at Marvila's library within the seminary What is an archive? Lab 3: city archive, 2019. Everything was captured (even the movements of the goat), solo show at Quadrum gallery in 2011 and presented at CCB in Lisbon 2016 within the international symposium Portuguese performance, 2 cycles, one archive, and at the group show Quadrum 50 anos uma fogueira cultural in 2023. Office/Commercial, solo show at at CCG in 2008 and presented at Financial District, a group show at the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York in 2009. Studio Socialis, solo show at Carlos Carvalho Gallery (CCG), Lisbon in 2009. A Willow (Or without Godot), at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, a solo show in 2006 and within the museum collection show in 2010, Dublin, Ireland.
Collections include the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Ilidio Pinho Foundation (Porto). Most significative awards and grants include: Foundation for science and Technology (FCT) (public funding), Nova University, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation; Luso-American Foundation; Institute of the Arts (public funding), City Hall of Lisbon (Public funding).

A prática artística de Alexandra do Carmo situa-se no ateliê como campo conceptual de estudo; um filtro através do qual e com o qual investiga as dinâmicas do espaço autoral, expondo as condições e limites do trabalho artístico. A sua area de investigação relaciona-se com o conceito de autonomia artística de uso público.

ive e trabalha em Portugal. é doutorada em Estudos Artísticos Arte e Mediações pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa FCSH-IHA tendo sido bolseira FCT/Nova de 2018 a 2022. Estudou no Whitney Museum Independent Study Program de 2004 a 2005, EUA. Concluiu um mestrado em Artes Visuais no Pratt Institute em Brooklyn, tendo sido bolseira Gulbenkian/Luso Americana de 2000 a 2003, EUA. Estudou no Ar.CO em Lisboa, tendo concluido a Fase de projecto em desenho em 1999, o Curso Avançado em 1998 e o Curso de desenho em 1996.

Dos seus projectos mais significativos destaca-se Tudo foi Captado (mesmo os movimentos do cabrito), exposição individual na galeria Quadrum em 2011, tendo sido apresentado no CCB no simpósio internacional Performance Portuguesa 2 Ciclos, um Arquivo em 2016, e na exposição Quadrum 50 anos uma fogueira cultural em 2023. Earthkeping/Earthshaking (Ter um dedo preso para criar a tensão/Campanha Linha Vermelha com a Greve Climática Estudantil no Rossio, Lisboa, 15 de Março de 2020, na galeria Quadrum em 2020, O Ateliê Verde no IC19, exposição individual no Sismógrafo, e apresentado na Casa dos Direitos Sociais no Seminário de urbanismo e justiça espacial O Direito à Cidade, CIAUD/FA-UL em Marvila, em 2018 e na Biblioteca de Marvila inserido no seminário O que é o Arquivo?
